Coronavirus Catch-Up Premium
All schools received £80 per pupil from the government to fund catch-up support necessitated by the schools' full or partial closure from March 2020 to September 2020. At Vigo Village School these funds have been spent almost exclusively on increasing teaching assistant (TA) support. It was felt that the TAs familiarity with the children and working relationships with the teachers would be most beneficial for the circumstances. TAs work with groups and individuals, in liaison with the class teacher, to accelerate the progress of those most disadvantaged by the lockdown.
Children from Years 1 to 6 were assessed in Term 1. Those who have fallen behind have been subject to focused support programmes, usually taught by the teaching assistants. All children will be re-assessed in Term 3 when the effectiveness of the programme will be analysed.
