Dear Parents, Carers,

School Attendance

As I am sure you are aware, attendance and attainment are very closely linked. At Vigo Village Primary School, we are very grateful for the support of all parents and carers who ensure that their children attend school regularly and punctually. This, of course, enables the teachers to support the children in reaching their full potential.

To help us promote regular attendance and punctuality, and to ensure that absences are kept to an absolute minimum, I am pleased to inform you that we will be working with South Eastern Attendance Advisory Service (SEAAS) who will provide focused support to improve attendance. Working with SEAAS, we will continuously monitor and review the attendance of all pupils. Should we have concerns regarding a pupil’s attendance level we will refer the matter to SEAAS who will work with parents and carers to improve the attendance of their children.

SEAAS will work on behalf of the school to address all attendance concerns, and this will include, if relevant, lateness and holidays in term time. In cases where attendance does not improve, or parents are not engaging with the process, SEAAS will consider all the legal options available to them such as penalty notices and referrals to the Local Authority for prosecution under Sec.444(1) Education Act 1996.

If you have concerns about any issues which may affect your child’s attendance or punctuality, please contact us at the school in the usual way. Alternatively please contact Mrs Nicola Mayzes from SEAAS at tinamorris@seaas.co.uk , on 07983 394789 or 0208 150 0082.

I would like to reiterate my gratitude to you for all your efforts related to attendance and punctuality. I would also like to emphasise that, should you be contacted by SEAAS, this is to support your efforts in raising your child’s levels of attendance. The children only get one chance; I just want to ensure that they are given every opportunity to make the most of their education.

Yours sincerely,

Mr R Barber
